Black Joker Meaning in Cartomancy

The trickster · A bluff · A hidden agenda · Your own blind spot

A trick or a blind spot. Check what you have assumed.

Upright Meaning

If the Red Joker is the surprise that helps, the Black Joker is the trick. Readers who use both Jokers often read them as a pair of opposites, and this one carries the shadow side: a bluff, a secret, a hidden agenda, something not what it seems, or the blind spot in your own thinking. It can also be a gentler invitation, the trickster who laughs at how seriously you are taking yourself. It suggests looking again at what you have assumed. It invites humility and a sense of humor.

Reversed Meaning

Reversed, the Black Joker suggests a trick exposed, a secret told, or a joke you are finally in on.

Love & Relationships

A mixed signal, a secret in a relationship, or a game being played. It invites you to ask the plain question and to notice if you are playing too.

Career & Money

A bluff in a negotiation, an agenda beneath an offer, information withheld. It suggests checking assumptions and reading between the lines.

Advice

Look again. Laugh at yourself a little, then check the facts.

Timing

Unpredictable; the trick is usually revealed suddenly.

As a Person

A trickster: witty, elusive, clever with words, hard to pin down. They are fun at a party and difficult in a contract. They may also be the part of you that avoids the truth with a joke.

Card Combinations

• Seven Of Diamonds — A financial story that does not add up; a bluff.
• Jack Of Spades — Someone playing a game; do not play along.
• Red Joker — Chaos; nothing in the reading is settled yet. Draw again tomorrow.
