King of Spades Meaning in Cartomancy
Formidable authority · Discipline · A boss or an official · Ambition
A formidable authority. Prepare, and hold your ground.
Upright Meaning
The King of Spades is authority at its most exacting: a boss, a landlord, an official, a lawyer, the person who decides and does not explain. The old books read him as ambitious and self-serving; the fairer reading is a man, or a role, defined by discipline and control. He suggests that a powerful, demanding figure is shaping your situation, or that you must bring that kind of rigor yourself. He invites preparation, boundaries and respect without fear.
Reversed Meaning
Reversed, the King suggests authority abused, control for its own sake, or a cold decision that someone will regret.
Love & Relationships
A partner who is controlling or emotionally distant, or a relationship ruled by one person’s standards. It invites clear boundaries and a conversation about warmth.
Career & Money
A demanding boss, an audit, a legal process, a hard negotiation with someone who holds the power. It suggests preparing thoroughly and conceding nothing you need.
Advice
Prepare. Hold your boundary. Respect the power without fearing it.
Timing
Tied to the person; otherwise slow, over months.
As a Person
A powerful, disciplined, ambitious person, often a man in authority: decisive, unsentimental, sometimes cold, effective. He respects preparation and despises excuses. Traditional readers gave him black hair; read the authority, not the color.
