An orange chalcedony, traditionally a stone of life force, sexuality, and creative drive.

Carnelian is a translucent orange to red variety of chalcedony, coloured by iron oxide. It has been carved into seals and amulets since ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian times and was set in the breastplate of the Hebrew high priest. In Islamic tradition it was favoured by the prophet Muhammad. Metaphysically it is a stone of warm vital energy, of the sacral chakra, of fertility, sexuality, and creative passion. Where amethyst calms, carnelian stirs. Where rose quartz softens, carnelian engages.

Held to ignite the sacral chakra, restore vitality after fatigue, and stoke creative and sexual energy. Considered a stone of warm enthusiasm and felt aliveness.
