Green aventurine is a variety of quartz containing tiny platelets of green fuchsite, a chromium rich muscovite mica, which give it a soft glittering effect known as aventurescence. The name comes from the Italian a ventura, by chance, referring to the accidental discovery of aventurine glass in the eighteenth century, which was then applied to the natural stone.
