An iron oxide of unmistakable weight, traditionally used as a grounding shield and a stone for the blood.

Hematite is iron three oxide, Fe2O3, the principal ore of iron. Its name derives from haima, blood, because of its rust red streak. It is dense, cool, and metallic in appearance. Ancient cultures, including the Egyptians, used it for amulets and for the eye paint of warriors. In metaphysical tradition it is treated as one of the strongest grounding stones, anchoring the user firmly into the body and into the earth. It is also classically associated with the blood, with circulation, and with courage in the face of conflict. So called magnetic hematite is a man made ferrite, not natural hematite, but is sold under the same name.
