A polymorphic aluminium silicate, considered self cleansing and aligning, used to balance the chakras.

Kyanite is aluminium silicate, Al2SiO5, with an unusual property called anisotropic hardness, measuring around 4 along its length and 7 across, depending on the direction. It crystallises in long blue blades, with classic localities in Brazil, Nepal, and Switzerland. Black kyanite is fan shaped and brittle. Green kyanite is rare and prized for heart work. Metaphysically it is one of the few stones traditionally said never to need cleansing because it does not retain negative energy. Robert Simmons describes it as a stone of instant alignment of the subtle bodies. It is often used as a final tuning stone after deeper crystal work.
