A soft manganese carbonate considered the stone of the inner child and of remembering joy.

Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate (MnCO3), forming in hydrothermal veins and stalactitic deposits. The famous banded specimens come from the Capillitas mine in Argentina and from Sweet Home Mine in Colorado. It is soft, only Mohs 4, and reacts to acid like other carbonates. Metaphysically it is described as the stone of the inner child and of joy reclaimed. Robert Simmons writes that rhodochrosite calls the lost soul fragments home, particularly those abandoned in childhood. It is a warmer and more vulnerable energy than rose quartz, often producing strong emotional release in sensitive users.
