Rhodonite is a manganese silicate (MnSiO3) named from the Greek rhodon, rose, in 1819. It typically forms dense pink masses with characteristic black dendritic veins of manganese oxide. Russia, Australia, and Sweden produce notable specimens. Within metaphysical tradition rhodonite is treated as a rescue stone for the heart, applied where there has been shock, betrayal, or long held grief.
