The blue gem variety of corundum, called the stone of wisdom and the divinely sanctioned mind.

Sapphire is corundum, aluminium oxide, coloured by trace iron and titanium for the classic blue. Mohs 9 makes it second only to diamond in hardness. Historic sources include Kashmir, Burma, and Sri Lanka. Sapphire has been the stone of priests, kings, and judges across cultures, set in royal regalia and ecclesiastical rings. The biblical sapphire of Exodus may have been lapis lazuli, but modern usage has long meant blue corundum. Metaphysically it is treated as the stone of the disciplined wise mind, supporting clear judgement, integrity, and devoted service. In Vedic astrology blue sapphire is the gem of Saturn and is treated with respect because of its strength.
