Akashic Records — Definition

The Akashic Records are described as a kind of cosmic library — every thought, word, and action of every soul, indexed and accessible to the trained reader. The concept was popularised by 19th- and 20th-century theosophists and by the American psychic Edgar Cayce. Modern Akashic readers usually approach the Records meditatively, asking permission to view a soul's information for a specific purpose. Whether read literally or as metaphor, the framework treats memory as something larger than a single brain.

Origin

From the Sanskrit akasha, meaning "ether" or "sky." Brought into Western occultism by H. P. Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society in the late 19th century.
