Aspect — Definition

Aspects describe how planets talk to each other. The major aspects are the conjunction (0°), sextile (60°), square (90°), trine (120°), and opposition (180°); minor aspects include the quincunx, semi-sextile, and quintile. Each aspect type has a flavour — easy, tense, integrative — and applies whether the planets meet in a natal chart, a transit, or a synastry comparison. Reading a chart is largely the work of reading its aspects.

Origin

From Latin aspectus, "a looking at." Planets were said to "look at" each other from specific angles.
