Divination — Definition

Divination is an umbrella term covering tarot, runes, the I Ching, scrying, palmistry, dowsing, astrology, and dozens of regional practices. What unites them is the use of a structured, symbolic system to surface information the rational mind has not organised yet. Divination is not the same as prediction; most serious practitioners describe it as a way of asking better questions and seeing the situation more clearly, with predictive accuracy as a secondary effect.

Origin

From the Latin divinare, "to foresee" or "to be inspired by a god." Derived from divus, "of the gods."

Daily card pulls, monthly star transits, and the occasional pendulum swing are all small forms of personal divination.
