Intuition — Definition

Intuition is the felt sense that something is true, off, important, or about to happen, without the steps that justify the conclusion. Cognitive science describes much of it as fast pattern-matching from accumulated experience; spiritual traditions describe it as a finer sense organ, the third eye in subtle-body terms. Both descriptions point to the same practical reality: useful information arrives faster than the rational mind can articulate. Trained intuition is built by paying attention to the body, taking notes, and checking outcomes over time.

Origin

From the Latin intueri, "to look upon" or "to consider."

Example

The pull to take a different route home that turns out to have avoided a delay is the small, mundane edge of intuition most people use without naming.
