New Moon — Definition

The new moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle. Astrologically, it is read as a fresh slate in whichever sign it falls — a Cancer new moon emphasises home and emotion, a Capricorn new moon emphasises structure and ambition. Many practitioners use the new moon as a moment for setting intentions, journaling, and starting new cycles. Practically, the sky is at its darkest in the day or two around the new moon, which is why astronomers favour it for observing faint stars.
