Suit — Definition
A suit groups fourteen cards (Ace through Ten plus four court cards) under a single elemental theme. Wands map to fire and creative drive, Cups to water and emotion, Swords to air and intellect, Pentacles to earth and material life. Other tarot traditions use Batons, Chalices, Blades, and Coins, but the meanings hold. Reading the dominant suit in a spread is a quick way to see which part of life the question is really about.
Example
Three Swords in a five-card spread suggests the querent is stuck in their head about the situation, not their heart.
