Third Eye — Definition

The third eye is the sixth chakra in the seven-chakra system — Ajna, "command" — and is described as the seat of inner sight. Activation practices include focused meditation on the brow point, breath retention, and visualisation. Traditionally, opening the third eye is considered a serious undertaking that depends on grounding the lower chakras first; many teachers warn against rushing into upper-body work before that foundation is in place. The bindi worn between the brows in some Indian traditions marks this point.

Example

Sustained meditation on the breath often produces, over time, a steady awareness behind the eyes that some traditions call third-eye opening.
